- Take the accessibility training courses
- Start with the 5 essential fixes
- Use Siteimprove to easily see what issues need to be addressed (sign up for the training to get access to Siteimprove)
- Prioritize A-level errors and warnings, then AA-level errors and warnings, then Review items
- Install the Siteimprove extension for Chrome to check individual pages right inside your browser window
Launching a new UIS-themed website
- As you build out your new website, you can follow the Getting Started checklist to make sure your content is accessible. There's no need to worry about the template; Web Services will take care of it!
- Web Services will review your site for accessibility issues before launch. Once all the issues are taken care of, your website can launch.
Keeping your UIS-themed website accessible
- Check Siteimprove once a week to see if any new issues have come up in your content.
- Use the Every Time You Publish a Page checklist when you create new content or edit existing content.
Every time you publish a page
- Check every informational image on the page for descriptive alternative text. More help with alternative text.
- Check your buttons and links – is the link text descriptive enough? More help with descriptive link text.
- Open the page in Chrome and click the Siteimprove Chrome Browser Extension button (you'll have to install the extension before you can use it). Use the Siteimprove Issues Guide to fix any A- and AA-level errors and warnings.
